When I saw the cover of the book, “Ghosts of War” I thought it was going to be one of those boring book that talk about one country attacking the other. But when I saw the bottom of the book it said, “ If I don’t do something, Who will?” At the time I said to myself this might be something interesting I should probably read it. Then under the title it said, “ The true story of a 19 year old GI.” That made it more interesting to read because the story is about a teenager and I wanted to know more about how he become a GI at the age of 19. As I started to read the first chapter of the book, it’s just started to talk about his life in high school and how he had no idea what he is going to do with his life. But after he watched the 9/11 attack in his classroom he made a complete turn in his life. At that time I started to question myself, “ Now I am a high school student, what about after this ? do I really know what I’m going to do with my life?” It’s interesting how some time us teens thinks that we can just play around and have a great life. Since our family runs almost every day of their life to provide for us, so that we eat, sleep, and have a good education. Also because now we have many things that are needed for our life we think it is going to be easy. But the truth is it’s not. Sometimes life can be so hard or easy depending on how I shaped it from the bottom or now. That’s way Ryan Smithson the author of the book noticed after the 9/11 attack and said to himself “ If I don’t do something, who will?”. Then joined the army to fight for his country. I would like other readers to read it because the book tells us a lot of things about life. As I said at the beginning of the story when you start the book it might sound a little boring but deep down there is a lot more you can learn from this book just like I did. For me it was so interesting to read about a 19-year-old teenage who become a GI right after high school and went through the Iraq war, away from his family and loved ones, watching kids who are starving and people get killed just to serve his country.
